About ELLA
Our Values
These are not aspirations — they are the standards we hold ourselves to every single day.
At ELLA, our values are the living foundation of everything we do — from how we design programs to how we answer the phone. They are the measure by which we hold ourselves accountable to the communities we serve.
Dignity
Every person is worthy of respect, always.
We honor the inherent worth of every person we serve — regardless of background, income, housing status, or life circumstance. Dignity is not earned at ELLA. It is the starting point.
Equity
We address root causes, not just symptoms.
Equal access is not enough when systemic barriers exist. We design our programs and advocacy to actively dismantle disparities — prioritizing those who have been most harmed by unjust systems.
Trauma-Informed Care
We lead with safety, trust, and choice.
Every interaction is guided by an understanding that many people we serve carry the weight of past trauma. We create environments where safety, trustworthiness, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility are non-negotiable.
Cultural Humility
We learn from and center the communities we serve.
Cultural humility is a practice, not a destination. We commit to ongoing self-reflection, learning from community members, and centering the cultural strengths and values of every individual and family we work with.
Community-Centered
Every decision begins and ends with community.
The people we serve are not passive recipients — they are the experts on their own lives and the agents of their own change. We build programs with community, not for community.
Evidence-Based Practice
We combine lived experience with rigorous evidence.
We believe that lived expertise and research-backed practice are not in tension — they are complementary. ELLA programs are grounded in both the wisdom of peer experience and the best available evidence in the fields we serve.
